Bob Haro's Master BMX Bike of the 1980s

Bob Haro’s "Master", a cutting-edge freestyle bicycle that revolutionized BMX was called the "Master". It was one among the most influential models of the 1980s. The Master is a bike that was built around progressive geometry with a bold design scheme. The master is the ultimate in cutting-edge design.

In the 1980s, Haro Bikes was the dominant brand of freestyle BMX bikes. Nearly every title in the sport was won by riders riding Haro Bikes. This made them one of the most beloved bikes of all time. Their first advert was published in FREESTYLIN' Magazine in 1985. The company would produce a line of freestyle bikes, which would be the beginning of a new era on the freestyle scene.

The Haro Freestyler and Master were the first two freestyle models to hit the market. Both models have a similar seat mast and head tube angle. They also share a swaged rear triangle. However, there are some key differences.

One important difference is in the form of the fork legs. In the first generation, a fork stander was placed higher on each fork leg. This allowed the fork stander to be folded up, out of the way, and maintained the upright riding position.

Later versions of "Master" were updated. For example, the gussets at the front of the bike were machined to eliminate cracking issues. These frames were also fitted with more refined chainstays. These frames also had non-drive side dropsouts that were not brazed-on.

Torker BMX of Fullerton manufactured the second generation USA Haro Master. It looked very much like the original drawing from 1983. There were many new features, including swept dropouts and tapered seat stays. Double s-bend chains stays fed into the rear dropout to create a standing platform.

Another important change was the addition of a fully weldable gusset to the front. This reduced cracking risk and gave the Master a marginal weight edge.

The highest specification models of that era were the 1986 models. Many of these bikes were based upon the 1986 model. However, the specs were adjusted to reflect the price of the 1986 frame. Unlike the FST and Sport, the Master did not have a stacked seat mast.

There were three color options for the Haro Master. Neon Green was the team issue. Gray and blue were also available. As with the FST and Sport, the Haro Master was produced in two sizes.

The 86 "Master" was a highly collectible bike. These bikes were given to the team riders Ron Wilkerson and Dave Nourie. Some bikes came with only the rear triangle. Other models were available with serial numbers starting from 1985.

Haro made the frames using the correct manufacturing methods when it was time to reissue them. In this instance, they used local raw materials.
